







The first written record of Velký Šariš comes from 1217. The steam locomotive „Mlinská džurka“ was manufacture in 1882 represents a town historical landmark and is located on the railway station monument. It is the oldest maintained steam locomotive in Slovakia. The Gallery, The Town Museum, The St. Jacob Church and the St. Elisabeth Chapel (1620) are located in the town. A significant town object is also the Castle Sharish being the most important landmark and its position dominates on a cone-shaped hill. The oldest settlement in the castle is recorded from the Neolithic Ages. Organizations in the town: Skittle team TJ Slavoj Velký Šariš, The Union of Women and the Old People’s Club, Breweries Topvar and FC Pivovar Velký Šariš. The industrial park is under construction in the town. The town Velký Šariš creates conditions for education, culture, sport and is active in the field of tourist trade development.
