The town is administrative centre of Trebišov region,
spreading in the southeast part of Východoslovenská Lowland. Its rich historical past can be documented since young Stone Age. The settlement from the Great Moravian Age of 10th to 11th century has also been discovered here besides prehistoric settlements within the town territory.
