The first written record of Vrútky comes from 1255, the age of Belo IV.
The coat-of-arms of the town Vrútky comes out of the heraldry bill of the yeoman Ruttkay Family confirmed by Hungary ruler Matthias II in 1609. The greatest boom inthe town development took place in the second half of the 19th century, which was related especially with the building-up of railway and railway works. Rich history of Vrútky is based mostly on a large-scale yeoman tradition that Hana Zelinová, the most famous native of Vrútky, depicted in her art works. The room devoted to her remembrance is located in the spaces of the Vrútky Town Hall. The most important architectonic landmarks in the town are represented by the Neo-Gothic St. John the Baptist Roman-Catholic Church, the Dr. Martin Luther Evangelic Church, The Synagogue and the Council House from the 20th years of previous century, the contemporary town hall. Vrútky lies in the Turiec region bosom and it is the entry gate to the National Park Malá Fatra and Veľká Fatra. The open-air swimming pool, the tourist and biking routes, as well as the Winter Resort Piatrová and first-class catering and accommodation services provide opportunities for the summer and winter activities.
