MESTO SKALICA

The town Skalica is located in the north part of the Zahorie region, on the border with the Czech Republic. Skalica has maintained its historic feature of the town centre up today. It is proud of the entirely preserved historical heart – the town zone of monuments The town centre is created by unique triangle square bordered by several historical sacral and secular buildings, of which some are also located in the adjacent streets. A torso of medieval fortifi cation, which is the best preserved at the Franciscan complex, surrounds the wider area thereof. The past centuries are breathing from the vicinity of the St. George’s rotunda with adjacent Calvary offering a charming panoramic view onto the whole town. Historical objects with a guide are made available during the year. A novelty of 2011 is the accessing of underground spaces of medieval ice-cellar rooms, where you can fi nd a medieval-type restaurant serving the specialities of medieval cuisine. Skalica, besides the high-quality wine, can also praise itself for unique gastronomical specialities as the Skalický trdelník and Skalická vysoká torta. The suburban holiday and tourist resort Zlatnícka Valley with summer swimming pool and accommodation services is distant only 7 km from Skalica. Zlatnícka Valley and the town surrounding provide good conditions for biking tours. The Moravia River bank is an ideal place for cycling because it was specially prepared for it. Thanks to its frontier location, Skalica has become the only one inland harbour on the unique water line called the Bata Channel. In the Skalica harbour you can hire motor-boats, cabin boats or to make the cruises. Below the Skalica vineyards, the 18-hole golf course revives that offers its services for all age-categories. Thenecessary golf equipment can be rented directly on spot, and the professional coach is available as well. Skalica regularly organizes an interesting cultural events, as the traditional Skalica’s Days, Trdlofest, the organ festival Musica Sacra and the summer train of events called Artleto.
