







The village Zuberec below the Roháče Mountains (762 m above sea level) is one of the most visited ones in the Orava Region.
The fi rst written record comes from 158 being described as the liege village belonging to the Orava Castle. Zuberec was founded in accordance with the “Ancient Wallachian Law”. In the half of the previous century the village recorded an extra development in tourism and it became a prestigious centre of tourist traffi c. Zuberec forms an entry gate into the West Tatras. The village is circumscribed by the Chočské and Skorušinské Mountains, which are made accessible even during the period when the most tourist paths in Tatras is already closed for public (from November 1st to June 15th). The Museum of Orava Region creates a village part and annually organizes the Folklore Festival “Podroháčske folklórne slávnosti”. Favourable snow conditions enable the tourism development even during the winter season – downhill skiing (Ski Resorts Roháče – Spálená, Janovky and Milotín), cross-country skiing and ski touring. Tourism and mountain biking dominate in summer. The visitors are provided with a wide variety of accommodation, alimentation facilities and auxiliary services, that are prosperous for tourist traffic.
