







Snina - entry gate into the National Park Poloniny.
The town Snina (216 m above the sea level) is located in the north-east part of Slovakia, the easternmost part of Prešov region. It is a part of Upper Zemplin region. The whole region of Snina borders with Poland on the north, the east border creates Ukraine, on the south it neighbours with district Sobrance, on the west with the district Humenné. Snina and its surrounding are known thanks to its remoteness and consistency, it is a real jewel of Europe. This easternmost situated region in Slovakia represents a milestone of two world cultures – the Roman culture and the Byzantine one. The oldest written record comes from 1343. As to the history, the manor-house from the second half of the 18th century is attractive, in the area whereof there is the statue of Hercules, which is a symbol of the town up to these days. Natural beauties predestine this picturesque East-Slovakian town and its surrounding for development of travel movement confirmed by a network of tourist routes and mountain biking routes. Natural attractions, as CHKO Vihorlat (Nature Preserve), The Snina Stone, Morské oko (Sea Eye), the National Park Poloniny, and the holiday resort Rybníky or wooden churches in the region represent a sufficient invitation for visitors. The region includes the Water Pond Starina, which is the biggest drinking water reservoir in Slovakia, 15 km distant from Snina. At present, the Holiday Resort Snina Ponds is performing the Reconstruction of swimming pools Dana and Eva to be the natural bath biotope with water fi ltration on biological basis. The natural bath biotope is divided into three parts – for small children (depth up to 0.4 m), for non-swimmers (depth from 1.1 to 1.5 m) and the part for swimmers (depth up to 3.5 m). The construction includes the fountain with artifi cial brooklet and the space for resting with artifi cial and natural lawn.
