







The town is a centre of economic and culture life of a Žitný Ostrov (Rye Island).
As a market place it has the 950-years’ tradition. Since 1405 it is a servile small town. In 1874 the territorial unit was established under name Dunaszerdahely in connection of the settlements Szerdahely, Újfalu, Nemesszeg and Elötejed. Since 1923 it is a district town. Cultural landmarks: the R.C. Church, the Yellow Manorhouse, Vermes’ Villa. The town has the museum and 2 galleries, the monument of revolutionary years of 1848, the Monument of St. Stephen, the tablet of Armin Vámbery. The cultural opportunities: PodunajskáSpring, Farewell with summer, Žitnoostrovský Market. Interesting objects: the Town hall, the Main street, the Vámbery`s Square and the promenade of Béla Bartók.
